Ah, the sweet sound of music. Just the other day I picked up my guitar and started strumming some songs I haven't played in a very long time. As I set the guitar down, my son Isaiah came down from his room, grabbed my guitar from where I laid it down, and handed me the guitar. The message was clear, "Dad, keep playing your music." Isaiah loves the sound of the guitar. I'm not sure why, he loves the fast songs that I play and will sit next to me as I play them. It's the sweet sound of music.
Many years ago, Disney made a classic movie called The Sound of Music. In the movie one follows the life of a failed nun who finds love and belonging with an Austrian family; The Von Trapp Family singers! I believe it was last year that WWVA's theatrical department produced the play on The Sound of Music. As my daughter and I sat and expeerienced the play, we were delighted to see and hear all the songs from that classic movie.
Have you ever wondered why music has so much power over a person? Here's what I found: The limbic system, which is involved in processing emotions and controlling memory, "lights up" when our ears perceive music. The chills you feel when you hear a particularly moving piece of music may be the result of dopamine, a neurotransmitter that triggers sensations of pleasure and well-being.
My prayer is that when you hear and feel the music from our special musical program today, your dopamine will trigger the sensations of pleasure and well-being. May the music this Sabbath draw you ever closer to the Master Jesus. May you sense that you have been with the Master Jesus today!
So, until the next time, this is Pastor Tello reminding you that thoughts do change lives!
